We spent the day refurbishing a kitchen counter/sink unit. We got it for free from a nice guy up the street (hi Jake!) who was remodeling a house. There was extensive water damage to the particle board base and side, but the sink and overall structure were sound.
BEFORE: Lots of grime and 70's "funk"...IF you know what I mean. ;-)
Water damage to the shelf and base, and also to the left (your left) side.
AFTER: We started with hot soapy water and elbow grease, and followed up with some fancy woodworking...now it's a much sturdier and completely presentable and functional unit (uh...once we add cabinet doors and a drawer front).
We replaced the left side completely, as well as the toe kick. We also added braces to support the base (see last photo). The bottom only had staining so we simply strengthened it by screwing down 1/2" plywood.
The faucet was shot, so it will be replaced.
A test fit with our
Precision Temp RV-500 propane on-demand water heater. This is a direct-vent model -- what you see is the air intake and vent, and will be on the outside of the bus.
We chose this location so that the distance from the water heater to the most-utilized taps would be shortest.
We postponed replacing the shelf until all plumbing (propane, water and electric) is installed.
