This evening (11/21) we assembled and erected the wind turbine!
The turbine is a
Southwest Windpower Air-X capable of producing 400 watts of peak power.
NOTE: The set screw used in the Kee Klamps is not Metric or SAE...but plumbing pipe size & thread!
We used 1.5" Schedule 40 galvanized iron pipe for the main mast and braces, and Kee Klamps as connecting pieces. The mast is 10' and the support poles 7'.
Kee Klamp fittings attach the support poles to the mast.
Kee Klamp flanges and 3/8" stainless hardware secure the support poles and mast to the deck.
#8 Gauge wire, suitable for use outdoors w/o conduit, connects the turbine to the battery bank. A shut-of switch and circuit breaker rated for 50 amps are also used.
Video of the turbine in action!
Another video. Cloudy days in the southwestern US usually mean some wind action.
Until I figure out how to rotate this video...please tilt your head to your left shoulder.
